Bird Watching In Your Own Backyard

If you love watching the fluttering, playing and fanciful nature of birds, you should know that watching birds in your own backyard or right outside your window can truly be a joy. It's remarkable just how many different bird species you can observe. If you haven't noticed very many birds in your backyard, there are a couple of things you can do in order to attract them. With bird baths, a great bird house and different types of bird feeders, it won't be very long before you've got some special visitors.

If you want to add a birdhouse to your yard, birds will potentially nest in it. They'll not only visit every once in a while, but if it is snug and secure, they might choose it to be the place to hatch their babies. This would be a real treat because you may get a quick look at the babies every now and then, or when it's time for them to learn to fly. A birdhouse is not only a handsome yard decoration, but it is a place the birds will like too. There are obviously a wide variety of kinds, shapes and sizes of birdhouses, and what you decide on is going to depend a lot on personal taste.

A bird bath is the perfect thing to include in your yard if you would like to attract more birds. They like to splash around in the water, and if you keep it clean, that's even better. You can pick from the more conventional bird baths, or you can go for something a little bit different, like a fountain that's solar powered. A bird bath with moving water will attract wild birds that normally wouldn't come to a more standard fountain, including warblers, thrushes, robins and humming birds. Birds particularly enjoy moving water, and it easily attracts them. Bird baths are also amazing looking as garden accessories. There are some people that love bird baths because they bring the birds closer than they customarily would. This is the perfect chance to take some fantastic photographs, and just enjoy the birds' company.

You'll find several different bird feeders on the market, and the bulk of them fall into one of three categories. There are tray feeders, tube feeders, and hoppers. Tube bird feeders are shaped like a cylinder, with perches at the holes where the feed comes out. These are good for various kinds of seed, just as long as the openings are large enough for it to come through. Hopper feeders are attractive to birds that could be leery about tube or tray feeders. For smaller birds, tray feeders are perfect. If you don't really care which types of birds are attracted to your backyard, and you would rather appreciate and enjoy any birds that come, you can buy a general seed bird food. The majority of bird seed attracts many different types of birds, because it's got several kinds of seed. If you would rather have a certain type of bird to visit your yard, you'll want to include a food or seed that is appealing to that particular species.

Adding these three things can help to make your backyard more accommodating for birds. A few other wonderful things you can add are nooks and crannies so that the birds can hide, and sweet-scented flowers. If they feel safe and secure in your yard, they are going to stick around. Have a fantastic time bird watching!
